The BJP, startled by Sonia Gandhis resignation, recuperated soon enough to take credit for the development. Though on the offensive mode claiming victory, the saffron party seemed to be on the defensive trying to nuetralise Congress claims of a supreme sacrifice again by their party president.

This is panic reaction after becoming a victim of her own conspiracy, he said.

He recalled that in 1975 too, the Congress amended the poll law retrospectively to validate then prime minister Indira Gandhis invalidated election. BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar had filed a petition with President APJ Abdul Kalam seeking Ms Gandhis disqualification earlier on Thursday.
