The recent two-day strike called by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) workers union has exposed the rift between the BEST management and the employees union.

Sharad Rao, general secretary of the BEST workers' union argued that he had not sent any apology for the strike to the BEST management .On the other hand, Rao's colleague from the union and a BEST committee member Suhas Samant admitted that he had apologised to the BEST management in the general interest of the employees and public at large.

Interestingly, cutting across party lines, all the BEST committee members at the committee meeting lauded on the BEST general manager Uttam Khobragade's stand on the strike called by the BEST unions. It was due to Khobragade's no nonsense attitude, trade unions had to call off their strike and come back to the work. Khobragade went by the Bombay high court order and declared the strike as illegal.

Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre, a committee member said that both the BEST management and the workers unions must set aside their egos and take steps in the interest of the public as well as the employees of the undertaking.

Another congress corporator and committee member Ravi Raja demanded stringent action against those employees who were responsible for damaging the BEST property during the two-day strike.

Rao has already claimed that the two-day agitation was not a strike but a non co-operation movement.
