The National Bamboo Mission?s efforts for commercial cultivation of bamboo are commendable (?Green gold gets shine back with bamboo mission?, Apr 21). Importantly, the proposal to increase bamboo cultivation on degraded land is worth serious consideration. This would help timely replenishment of large tracts of degraded lands. The most significant improvement would be the much-needed increase in forest cover in our country. Not only this, it would also provide employment opportunities to a significant number of people in the Northeast. So, it would lead to ecological as well as economical advancement of India.

The unilateral move by Tata to start BlackBerry services (?Berry, Berry complex?, Apr 22) goes to show that the government is going in circles even when it has obvious answers to the problem of misuse of technology.
