Balmer Lawrie Plans To Cut 130 More Jobs

Balmer Lawrie & Company, a public-private joint stock conglomeration of various business units, will reduce its number of employees by a further 130 through a voluntary retirement scheme. At the conclusion of the ongoing process of restructuring of manpower, the companys employee strength will stand at 1,450 as against 3500 in 1997-98, the year when the process began. At the present time it has 1580 employees on its rolls.

At the sidelines of the annual general meeting of this erstwhile subsidiary of IBP Co Ltd, managing director PK Bishnoi, who chaired the AGM, said that out of its three steel industrial packaging and barrel manufacturing units in Mumbai, the one in Thurbe has been decided to be wound up.
