With the HRD ministry denying permission to Indian institutes of management to go global, directors of the prestigious B-schools on Tuesday met to chalk out their strategy for the crucial meeting with HRD minister Arjun Singh here on Wednesday.

Refusing to divulge details of the four-hour long meeting, director of IIM, Kolkata, Shekhar Choudhury told reporters we discussed various issues. It is nothing significant. We will make a statement on Wednesday after the discussion (with Mr Singh).

Asked whether there would be any fireworks at the meeting, director of IIM, Ahmedabad, Bakul Dholakia said, We hope to have amicable solution. No fireworks.

Mr Singh has convened a meeting after he had asserted that the government would not come in the way of B-schools going global, if they amended their memorandum of association.

Mr Singh had convened the meeting of directors of all IIMs to discuss issues relating to autonomy and measures to further strengthen the institutions, HRD ministry sources said.

They said the meeting would deliberate on further strengthening of the autonomy and discuss whether it is perceived to have diminished anyway in the recent past.
