At Rs 24 cr on day 2, Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Bang Bang’ box office collections fail to pack a punch

The Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Bang Bang’ box office collections…

Released on Thursday, the Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Bang Bang’ box office collections have failed to live up to its top billing, which had put it as a sure shot killer of all previous Bollywood records.

Pre-release, ‘Bang Bang’ had posed a challenge to not just the 2014 releases like Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ or Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham Returns’, the hype surrounding it had even propped it up as a movie that would obliterate Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhoom 3’ record, which had done business of over Rs 500 crore.

The reason behind the Hrithik Roshan ‘Bang Bang’ hype was not just the mammoth marketing campaign, the whopping success of Krrish 3, but also the fact that it would open in the greatest-ever number of screens. And, on top of it all, ‘Bang Bang’ faced hardly any competition as the only other movie releasing on the same day was Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Haider’ – but ‘Haider’ plot was hardly designed to make it a standout box office collections movie. Plus, ‘Bang Bang’ had the benefit of releasing on a magnificently huge holiday run ? Thursday, Friday, Saturday were holidays and the same is the case with, Sunday, even Monday. Such a huge coincidence in the constellation of stars was surely a top sign that ‘Bang Bang’ would surpass everything that came before it.

All of it to no avail ? unless, Sunday and Monday turn out to be occasions when the public makes a massive never-before-seen run for the theatres.

So, while ‘Bang Bang’ box office collections on first day was Rs 27.54 crore, on day 2 it managed a sum even lesser than that ? Rs 24.08 crore.

While the India box office collections add up to Rs 51.62 crore, the worldwide take was logged at Rs 56.24 crore.

However, to put things in perspective, ‘Bang Bang’ may well not have performed as well as some expected, most movie reviews had actually given it top play, but still, the box office collections are good by any standards ? ask Shahid Kapoor about ‘Haider’.
