AstraZeneca Plc is suing Ranbaxy Laboratories in an attempt to stop the Indian drugmaker launching a copycat version of its top-selling medicine, ulcer pill Nexium, it said on Tuesday.

Europes third-biggest drugmaker had been widely expected to sue after announcing last month that Ranbaxy had applied to US regulators to launch a generic version of the $4-billion-a-year heartburn and anti-ulcerant medicine.
