FMCG major Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) is expected to announce its new executive chairman soon and Arun Adhikari, managing director (home and personal care) is likely to fill the slot, according to industry sources. Harish Manwani, based in Singapore, is the companys non-executive chairman.

Right now, the Rs 9,927 crore HLL is being managed through an arrangement called the national management team which comprises MK Sharma (vice-chairman), D Sundaram (director-finance & IT), Arun Adhikari and S Ravindranath (managing director-foods).

When confronted with the query at a seminar last week, Mr Adhikari had declined to comment. According to industry sources, HLL, the largest advertiser in India, has been trying to fill the post of chairman for quite some time. Finally, the company seems to have selected Mr Adhikari. In fact, the company may announce the appointment of new chairman at the time of its next board meeting which is scheduled in December, added sources. HLL spokesperson, however, denied any such possibility.

Harish Manwani took over as non-executive chairman in June. Prior to that, he was the president of Unilever-Asia & Africa. He replaced former chairman MS Vindi Banga, following his appointment as worldwide president, foods, Unilever. Mr Banga is now based in London.
