AP To Set Up 23 Handloom Bazaars

In a bid to encourage the handloom weavers in the state, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up 23 handloom bazaars christened `Neta Bazaars', one each in all the 23 districts. Speaking to media after the Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, the information and public relations minister Mr S Chandramohan Reddy said that one such bazaar has already been set up in Karimnagar district, which is functioning extremely well benefiting the weavers. The Cabinet has approved the government guarantee for Rs 26.20 crore loan obtained from Power Finance Corporation by the APGenco to undertake various renovation and modernisation activities in the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS), Mr Reddy said.

Further the minister added that the Cabinet has also approved government guarantee in case of Rs 60.60 crore drawn by the APGenco from Power Corporation and Vijaya Bank to implement various works in the power stations.

Taking the advantage of the recent rains, the government has asked the agriculture department to supply required Bengal gram and Sunflower seeds for taking up sowings in black soils. The Bengal gram seeds are being supplied in coastal districts for covering unsown areas in the command area and also uplands, Mr Reddy said.

Further to meet the additional demand the state Cabinet has directed the district collectors to procure and supply appropriate varieties of seeds under contingency cropping programme.
