The Andhra government on Sunday sought an ad hoc assistance of Rs 800 crore from the Centre for undertaking relief and rehabilitation work as heavy rain and floods left a trail of devastation and death in the state.

The rains in different spells have led to considerable loss in various parts of the state with scores of tanks and roads being breached besides causing severe damage to crops, chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy said in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. PTI

The state had earlier sent a detailed report claiming an aid of Rs 2,600 crore and Mr Reddy said the ad hoc assistance could be based on report submitted by the state. The CM expressed satisfaction at the pace of relief works, the release said.
