Dhirubhai Ambanis 80 th birth anniversary celebration failed to live up to the expectations as it turned out to be a low-key affair marked by prayers and havans.

Though the Reliance Group founders ancestral house now done up as a memorial was inaugurated by the familys religious guru, Rameshbhai Oza, there was no word on the much-touted coming together of the brothers, Mukesh and Anil. This was much to the disappointment of the corporate world, which had been anticipating a merger of Mukeshs RIL and Anils ADAG.

Much like Tuesday, Day 2 of the Chorwads most-famous familys trip to its ancestral village turned out to be a close-door affair, with no outsiders being allowed even for the inauguration of the memorial, named Dhirubhai No Delo. The ceremonies started at 8.30 am when the Ambani clan gathered for a prayer ceremony, immediately after which Anil, accompanied by his wife Tina, left for a quick visit to Somnath temple by their private helicopter.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted as per the mahurat at 10.15 am and was attended by the entire Ambani family. Around noon, RIL Group president and Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani spoke briefly to media and brushed aside speculation on a possible patch-up between the two brothers. Nathwani categorically stated that the function was our family function and our sentiments are attached with this function. It has nothing to do with business.

After a lavish lunch hosted for invitees, Anil and family left for Mumbai. Two hours later, Mukesh too flew out from Chorwad.
