DMK on Friday temporarily suspended Alagiri, the partys south zone organising secretary, citing indiscipline. The 62-year old Alagiri has been in a power-struggle with his younger brother MK Stalin ever since Karunanidhi had indicated that Stalin would be his political successor.
In a statement , DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan said Alagiri created confusion in the party by urging party cadres not to work and criticising the disciplinary action taken by the party against some members for their anti-party activities.
The continuation of Alagiri in the party is not proper and would destroy the party discipline. Hence he is temporarily suspended from the party, said the statement. The suspension move comes in the wake of Alagiris sharp criticism of the DMKs stated interest in joining hands with another regional party, the DMDK, headed by former film actor Vijayakanth.
