Airtel Unveils Prepaid Recharge Coupon

Airtel has launched its first all India prepaid recharge coupon, which will allow customers to buy a recharge card in any of the 15 Airtel networks across India. Airtel subscribers will also be able to recharge their mobile phones at over one lakh retail outlets, 4500 ATMs and via SMS. Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, Airtel CEO Jagdish Kini said that the company had tied up with Citibank, HDFC, UTI,IDBI and SBI to enable electronic recharge through SMS and ATMs. He said that Airtel was planning to have a total of 15,000 outlets in Karnataka by March 2004. The company has a customer base of 6.08 lakhs in Karnataka. Airtel expected that at least 5000 of their newly launched national card would be sold in Karnataka every month. It has also appointed Deepak Mehrotra as the COO for Karnataka.

Spice Telecom Invests Rs 20 Cr In New Facility
Spice Telecom has invested nearly Rs 20 crore in a new facility including a customer care and mobile switching centre. The 65-seater call centre would be able to handle 15,000 calls per day with an initial capacity to cater to 1,00,000 subscribers. The capacity of the centre is expandable to serve 5,00,000 subscribers. Spice has a customer base of 2,35000 in Karnataka.

K'taka Cabinet Clears 5,014 Employees Jobs
The Karnataka cabinet on Friday gave its approval for fresh recruitment of 5,014 rural weightage employees, whose services were terminated in the wake of a Supreme Court verdict. Law minister D B Chandregowda said they would be reappointed under special rules as a one-time step, based on humanitarian grounds.

Assembly Adjourns Sine Die
Tamil Nadu assembly adjourned sine die on Friday after a five-day long monsoon session. A resolution to this effect was moved by the leader of the House and finance minister, C Ponnaiyan.

D-Link India Ltd has set up a wireless LAN at Raj Bhavan to enable `anywhere-anytime connectivity', according to an official release in Bangalore on Friday. The system which was designed and implemented by D-Link has wirelessly enabled the entire Raj Bhavan with several access points to provide total mobility.
