In a move which will entitle the country 60,000 barrels of oil per day, Iran has offered a 20 per cent equity to India in its Kushk-Husseinieh oil field. This is a huge semi-discovered oil field in Iran and is expected to produce 3,00,000 barrels of oil a day.

Alongside, India will shortly finalise the sales and purchase agreement for importing 5 million tonne per annum of liquified natural gas (LNG) from Iran.

Discussions on these issues took place last week between petroleum secretary BK Chaturvedi and a senior Iranian minister

during their visit to Amsterdam for attending the 9th International Energy Forum.

A high-level government-to-government meeting is now expected to take place in June-end to finalise details of the Indo-Iran co-operation in the oil and gas sector.
