Additions To DDA Flats Legalised

Union urban development ministry has decided to fulfill the persistent demand of 3.25 lakh Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flat owners for additional covered space, by providing them 10 to 15 per cent more covered area by adding seven additions and alterations to the already approved list of 19 categories.

The flat owners can now make additions to the covered area of their houses. This decision is also applicable to 75,000 cooperative housing flats and slum tenements. Approval of the housing society members will be required for permitting additional construction. Announcing this at a press conference, Urban development minister Ananth Kumar said the changes permitted include fixing doors in back or front courtyards, converting window into almirah, shifting of water storage tank and raising of parapet wall up to five feet height.
