Acreage may go up by 10%

Good rainfall in the chana or chickpea growing regions may increase acreage under the winter season pulse by 5-10%, trade officials said.

The area has to increase. This year rainfall was widespread in key chana cultivating regions, said K C Bhartiya, president of Pulses Importers Association.

Major chana producing states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have been receiving good rainfall since last week.
