Tata Aria to hit the road in 3 months, cost Rs 14 lakh

The much-awaited crossover from the Tata Motors stable, called Aria, is expected to be priced around Rs 12.5- 14.5 lakh in the market. The car is showcased at the ongoing 10th Auto Expo here and is scheduled for launch in the next three months, said a senior company official. There will be three variants of the vehicle and will have both all wheel (4x4) as well as two wheel drive options (4x2). The car will be competing against vehicles like Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner and GM Captiva in the market.

We will be launching one of the three variants in the market in the next three months time, said SG Saksena, head product group utility vehicles, passenger car business unit, Tata Motors Ltd.

He added that the company is yet to take a call whether to get the all wheel top-variant or two-wheel drive car in the market first. The vehicle is powered by 2.2 litre direct injection common rail (DICOR) diesel engine, delivering 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque.

The company is looking at filling the gap across the value chain, said an auto expert adding that one can expect some more action from the Tata Motors side in the range of Honda City, where currently they do not have a product. The concept sedan Pr1ma from the company will be filling this gap soon. The concept is showcased by the company and is a showstopper at the 10th Auto Expo. The Tata Pr1ma is a concept luxury sedan designed by Pininfarina. Adds, VG Ramakrishnan, director, automotive and transportation, Frost & Sullivan, South Asia and Middle East, With Aria, the company is targeting the high-end SUV market. It doesnt have a strong contending vehicle against slew of high-end SUVs in the market after Safari at around Rs 8.5-9 lakh bracket".
