The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on a batch of pleas filed by global softdrink majors Pepsico challenging the Kerala governments decision to prosecute them for allegedly selling drinks having pesticides beyond prescribed norms.

The cola major had moved against the state governments decision to initiate criminal proceedings for its alleged adulteration of the soft drinks. Pepsi argued that as per law there was no provision for any pesticide adulteration in cold drinks and it was universally accepted norm that pesticide residues are present in all food articles.

There is no standard set for pesticide residues in soft drinks under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, and Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955.
