BSNL gets Rs 382.6 cr revenue from broadband

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL)the biggest player in the Internet service providers (ISP) segmentgenerated Rs 382.6 crore revenues from its broadband home plans in 2006-07.

The PSU, which has a market share of about 43%, got maximum revenues from the southern states, with Tamil Nadu being the biggest contributor at Rs 67.5 crore.

Tamil Nadu was followed by Karnataka and West Bengal, which generated revenues of Rs 59.7 crore and Rs 45.8 crore, respectively under various plans, including Home 250, 500, 1,000, 1,800, 3,300, 900P and 900. While Maharashtra was at the fourth place with revenues of Rs 33.9 crore, Andhra Pradesh came a close fifth at 33.7 crore.

Other states like Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and UP East got Rs 20.7 crore, Rs 22.3 crore, Rs 16.9 crore, Rs 13.4 crore and 12 crore, respectively. The state-owned company got maximum revenue (Rs 213.8) under its Home 250 plan, whereas Home 3,300 plan could generate revenues of just Rs 3.6 crore.
