India’s power demand in August rose by 12.8% to a record high of 169 billion units, with a 33% increase in prices outside of solar-generation hours due to weak rainfall. Peak demand also rose by 12%, leading to a sharp price difference between solar and non-solar hours. The surge was fueled by higher use of cooling equipment and saw a rise in renewable energy generation and coal-based generation.
