Australia has accused India of exceeding the WTO’s permitted support limit for sugarcane, with an estimated support-to-value ratio of 90%-95%. This has reignited discussions about trade-distorting measures and the use of the 1986-88 reference price. India has previously questioned this base year and is currently appealing a WTO panel ruling against its sugar and sugarcane policies.
