A young Indian-origin student from University of Chicago, Rithika Tudmilla, was part of a team that discovered the oldest star in the universe, SDSS J0715−7334. This star, formed over 10 billion years ago, has the lowest amount of heavy elements ever recorded. Undergraduate students, including Tudmilla, played a key role in identifying the star during an astronomy field course.
