The food ministry has eased procurement rules for Punjab due to unseasonal rains, allowing for 70% luster loss and increasing the shriveled or broken grain limit to 15%. This will aid farmers and prevent distress sales, with procurement volumes expected to increase soon. However, current wheat procurement has been slow, with only 5.13 MT purchased compared to 8.75 MT arrivals in the market.
