This time around, US presidential elections have been very divisive – the candidates, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have divided the country, literally split it, into two mutually antagonistic sections. This is not unlike what happened in the last general elections in India when BJP leader Narendra Modi and the Sonia and Rahul Gandhi duo at Congress carried out a vitriolic campaign to divide the nation like never before. In that scenario, Narendra Modi had cut through the confusion and took the imagination of the country by storm when he tweeted, perhaps the most important photograph of the elections, – the picture was of him taking a selfie with the BJP symbol cutout held in his hands. The photo went viral and the results we all know about!
Now, Donald Trump has also taken India by storm with his tailoring of the Modi slogan to suit his purpose while addressing the Indian-American community at a fund raising event. He said, ‘Ab ki baar Trump sarkar‘. Now, if he had taken another leaf out of Modi book of ‘how to make an impact and win elections’ and did the same, surely, the American public would have sat up noticed. So, to give Donald a leg-up, we decided to do him a favour and the photo above, is the result! Does it work? You decide.
Sounds far-fetched. Considering the wafer thin lead Hillary Clinton has in the US elections, every bit counts and this would surely have brought Donald some much-needed support from quarters who may not be his core supporters, people who recognise and appreciate humour. After all, as far as America is concerned, both Hillary and Donald are very far from ideal candidates. In fact, analysts have blasted the American system for its inability to throw up someone of better calibre.
In fact, if Donald loses by a slim majority, he will have himself to blame. Borrowing a little bit of good luck via India has always been auspicious. Ask Barack Obama – he keeps a little figure of Hanuman in his pocket all the time.
