In what can make every Indian’s chest swell with pride, a UK businessman of Indian origin has come out with an alternative proposal for expansion of London’s Heathrow airport and that too at a cost that is quite astounding. He claimed that the proposal would be billions of pounds cheaper than the current scheme for upgradation of the airport, PTI said. The founder and chairman of the Arora Group of hotels, Surinder Arora, has come out with plans for another runway at the airport, which he said would be cheaper by about  6.7 billion pounds. As per the report, he has joined hands with US construction firm Bechtel to put forward his suggestions as part of public consultation on the expansion of the airport.

Who is Surinder Arora

According to the website thearoragroup.com, Surinder Arora had arrived in the United Kingdom as a teenager from India. He started the business in the year 1999 by running a hotel for airline staff and has not looked back since then. The man went on to build the business with strong principles of enterprise and purchased the Renaissance London Heathrow hotel in 2012. This was the hotel he had worked as a waiter in 1970s. The Arora Group today is a successful private company in the country doing business in construction, property, hotel development and management division, the website said.

Currently, the group manages a portfolio of assets in UK’s important business locations, with most of the presence in airport regions. Both he and his wife Sunita have also co-founded Arora Charitable Foundation and support social initiatives in the country and rest of the world. The charitable initiatives of the foundation have raised a total of over 1.8 million pounds since it came into being in 2010.

Surinder Arora has also been honoured with numerous awards including South East Institute of Director Awards 2016; CEO of the Year at the UK Private Business Awards last year. Earlier this year, the Group was honoured with ‘Business of the Year’ at the Asian Business Awards, the website added further.
