US President Donald Trump surpasses Pope Francis, PM Narendra Modi as most followed world leader on Twitter

US President Donald Trump surpassed Pope Francis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become world's most followed leader on social network site Twitter.

US President Donald Trump surpassed  Pope Francis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become world’s most followed leader on social network site Twitter. As per Indian Express, the US president with 40 million followers,  pipped the pope, who uses nine different language accounts to send same message in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, French, Latin, German and Arabic. He has over 39.5 million followers at the time Twiplomacy crunched the number.

Donald Trump has been using Twitter actively in order to communicate directly with the American maSses especially as he sees bias in mainstream media against his administration. His constant use of the social network site has also triggered a number of controversies in the past.

At present, Prime Minister Modi is at third position with a staggering 34.9 million followers for his @narendramodi account. Apart from this, the also commands another 21.3 followers through @PMOIndia prime minister’s office account, the report added.

Fifth and sixth spots are also being held by the US president with 20.5 million and 15.6 million followers–on the @potus and @WhiteHouse accounts which he inherited after being sworn in as the 45th president of United States in January.

Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan holds the seventh position. He is followed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as the eighth most followed person on Twitter, Indian Express added.
