Donald Trump wins the US Presidential elections 2016. And India, most of all than any other country in the world has followed the elections with almost religious intent. And rightfully so. Donald trump has openly advocated his ‘love’ and support for India. Quite a few Indian communities in America have openly supported Trump in his campaign while certain right-wing groups within India have organised ‘hawans’ among other things. Meanwhile, former House speaker of the USA, Newt Gingrich, who has been a vocal supporter of India had earlier compared Donald trump to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Trump, who has received severe criticism from all over the world due to his far right stand was compared to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Newt Gingrich. Gingrich is a veteran US politician associated with the Republican party for a very long time. Gingrich had spoken about the state of Gujarat with NDTV and said that the state had grown a lot under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Comparing the US President and the Indian Prime Minister, Gingrich had said that both were very practical in their approach and have single handily changed the political atmosphere of their respective countries.
Gingrich had also defended Trump’s stand on terrorism and said that Donald was very serious about the issue of terrorism, similar to Narendra Modi. Gingrich has been an open supporter of Trump, even within the Republican Party despite a section of it rooting against Trump for his outrageous statements. Gingrich had described Donald Trump as a visionary who had dared to be politically incorrect. So the question that needs to be answered is- Will Newt Gingrich be given a significant position in the Trump cabinet? And if he finds himself among the lawmakers, how it will affect India.
