Russia has unveiled the RS-28 Sarmat, a new missile that is dubbed by the NATO as ‘Satan 2’. The new missile will send chills down the spine of the West, because it is reportedly capable of destroying areas as big as Texas and France! According to the Daily Mail, the Satan 2 will have a range of 10,000 km and the missile would also be able to evade radars! The huge range of the missile implies that Russia would have the power to attack London, other European cities and cities on America’s west and east coasts!
The Satan 2 is a thermonuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile. The de-classified image was released by Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau on its website, along with the statement, “In accordance with the Decree of the Russian Government ‘On the State Defense Order for 2010 and the planning period 2012-2013,’ the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau was instructed to start design and development work on the Sarmat.”

The statement went on to read, “In June 2011, the Bureau and the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a state contract for the Sarmat’s development.” “The prospective strategic missile system is being developed in order to assuredly and effectively fulfill objectives of nuclear deterrent by Russia’s strategic forces,” the statement added. According to Russia Today, the Sarmat will enter into production some time in 2018. The missile’s first stage engine PDU-99 was tested in August this year and a hypersonic warhead for the upcoming ICBM was reportedly tested back in April.
What will make the new missile formidable? If reports are to be believed, then the US and the West countries have reason to worry when it comes to the Satan 2 missile. The missile is likely to have around 10 heavy or 16 lighter nuclear warheads, or a combination of warheads that will act as a big threat against Russia’s enemies.
The Sarmat will enter service in late 2018, said Russia Today, adding that it will entirely replace the RS-36M family by 2020. The RS-36M ICBM family was dubbed as Satan by NATO. The missile will weigh around least 100 tons and will boast of a large payload capacity of up to 10 tons.
