President-elect Donald Trump has received a royal welcome before his first-ever meeting with US President Barack Obama. As the president-elect’s plane took off from LaGuardia Airport in New York City, he was given a water cannon salute on the tarmac. The ceremonial salute involved two fire tenders showering the plane in plumes of water that crisscrossed in the sky to form a makeshift arch. Notably, it is a common way to honor momentous occasions, such as the retirement of a senior pilot or the first or last flight of a certain airliner, a report said.

Trump was headed to Washington, DC, for a meeting with President Obama to discuss his upcoming transition to the White House. He is also set to meet with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the afternoon.

During one of the bitter presidential campaigns in decades, Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton had ridiculed her Republican counterpart Trump for his lavish lifestyle, campaigning from a “big jet” and being out of touch from the ground realities.
