A fire official says smoke that caused a plane to be evacuated at Louisville International Airport was caused by a Samsung device.

Louisville Metro Arson Capt. Kevin Fletcher told news outlets that the device overheated today morning and began to smoke, which led Southwest Airlines to evacuate the plane before it departed for Baltimore.

Fletcher says there was minor damage to the plane’s carpet where the device was dropped.

This issue transcends beyond just a phone and it is driving me nuts to hear people yacking about which phones are better, safer or what not. This issue is actually related to society and it is proving to be virtually deadly. As we demand bigger, brighter, flashier and above all THINNER phones we fail to realize the companies that fight to keep up with our demand are making fatal errors to keep their market share. What if this phone caught fire in the air? What if it had been in the owners pocket? What if someone had poured water on it (lithium fire H2o = BOOM)! People do not understand the chemistry of lithium fires and adding water can make it worse.... My point is that we are totally oblivious as a society to the dangers we are creating. People want new phones every year, again, bigger, faster, thinner......yet we fail to see that technology has limits. Who cares if a fanboys phone blew up. I stopped upgrading after the Note 4 because I saw this coming. I fly a lot and it scare the out of me that people put some sort of tech status above our lives! You can upgrade a phone but the one piece of tech you can never replace is our own quantum entangled bio electric brain and I think preserving life out weighs a piece of hardware soon to be outdated. ....at least the plane didn't and we need to stop expecting so freaking much so freaking fast.
