Philippines President has regretted using abusive language against the US President Barack Obama, according to reports. A day ahead of his scheduled meeting with Obama in Laos on Tuesday, Duterto launched a tirade against Obama, warning the latter of not lecturing him on the extrajudicial killings as a part of his crackdown on drug dealers in the country.

Duterto said that Obama must be respectful and don’t just throw questions. Using the Tagalog phrase for “son of a bitch,” he said, “Putang ina I will swear at you in that forum”, AP reported him saying in a televised news conference in southern Davao City.

In reaction, the US authorities cancelled the meet. However, Obama reportedly said that he would “undoubtedly” bring up the human rights concerns if he meets with Duterto in future.

Action against drug dealers was part of Duterto’s election campaign promise, which helped him sweep the recent polls in the country. As per reports, as many as 1800 people have been killed in the Philippines in the seven weeks of Duterto’s rule as part of his crackdown on drug dealers.

Duterte has been under intense global scrutiny over the more than 2,000 suspected drug dealers and users killed since he took office. Obama had said he planned to raise the issue in his first meeting with Duterte, but the Philippine leader insisted he was only listening to his own country’s people.
