A school in Pakistan has stoked a controversy by issuing a shocking circular banning Punjabi language and labelling it as ‘foul’. According to a media report, Beaconhouse School System in Sahiwal in Pakistan’s Punjab, has sent out a circular to parents informing about the disciplinary policy of the school. One of the instructions was about the ban on foul language in school and home. “Foul language is not allowed within and outside the school premises, in the morning, during the school hours and after home time. Foul language includes taunts, abuse, Punjabi and hate speech,” the circular said.
The malicious circular has been doing the rounds of social media and has received flak from angry users including those in India. Punjabi activists has flayed the school authority for demeaning the language and cultural heritage of Punjab.
