In a clear message on a ‘Dawn reports of confrontation between Pakistan army and the government, the former has called it a “breach of national security”. Army chief General Raheel Sharif chaired a corp commanders meeting on Friday, expressing concern over “false and fabricated story.”

The statement by GHQ, described the news report as breach of national security” . The story had revealed confrontation between the government and the army on terror groups striking in Afghanistan and India. It also said that since the report was leaked from a closed-door meeting chaired by PM Nawaz Sharif , his government was responsible for it.

Reports from New Delhi quoted sources as saying that the development was understandable why the Pakistan army should be upset over the ‘Dawn’ report and put blame on the government. This was done mainly since the report cast Army-ISI combine in poor light.

After the report, that created much furore in Pakistan, the Sharif government denied the story at least thrice and barred Cyril Almeida, the journalist who filed the report, from leaving the country, which was lifted on Friday, after the mounting pressure on the government.

Reports suggested that with only three weeks left for his retirement, Gen Sharif did not show any sign of easing himself out of office and that he continues to remain in charge as evident from his clearance of death penalties to 10 convicted by an anti-terrorism court recently.
