A day following Donald Trump’s victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the US Presidential election 2016, the USA still remains divided. The country woke up on Thursday morning to national newspapers reporting the election of the new President in their unique ways. While some papers simply reported the fact, others could not hold back their criticism about the Republican nominee’s succession to the White House.
Trump was largely criticised by almost the entirety of US media following his nomination as a Republican candidate. Trump had started his campaign with the promises of building a wall around the Mexican border to prevent illegal immigration. Trump had been blatantly sexist and charges of sexual assault had been levelled against him by women, following which the media had crucified him.

On Thursday morning, New York’s Daily News’ first page had a picture of the White House with the caption, “House of Horrors”. It also showed pointers saying, “Trump seizes Divided States of America”. Meanwhile, the New York Post started with the words “President Trump”. While it is yet to be seen what other forms of media have to say about him as the sheer fact that Donald Trump is the new president-elect of the United States of America is a tough cookie to sink in. It would be interesting to see what the American media, which has been in thorough opposition of Trump all this time, does now that he is President had is likely to have a leash on them.
