Bedridden for over three years, Eman Ahmed, who was the heaviest woman in the World until January this year, was seen smiling at the Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi on Monday. She was seen cheerfully winking and blowing kisses at her medical team, reports Indian Express. 36-year-old Eman was, reportedly, the heaviest woman in the world till she was brought to India for her treatment at Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital.
When Eman came to Mumbai in February this year, she was suffering through limb mobility and an unclear speech. She could barely smile. Later, she was moved to Abu Dhabi where her condition improved. As reported by Indian Express, Eman’s younger sister, Shaimaa Selim, Eman was stressed by what happened in India but now she has become more lively and is also cooperative during her therapy sessions. “Whatever happened in India had stressed her. A salon team did her make-up today,” Shaimaa told IE.
In February this year, Eman was lifted by a crane in Egypt and sent to India in a cargo carrier. She was nearly 500 kgs when she was admitted to the Saifee Hospital in Mumbai. While at Mumbai, Eman had undergone gastrectomy surgery which reduced her stomach by 75 per cent. She survived on multiple diets to lose weight, reports IE. However, according to reports, Eman was asked to return home by her treating surgeon, Dr Muffazal Lakdawala and that is when her sister, Shaimaa, shifted Eman to the Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi in May.
Eman is set to undergo a liposuction surgery in the month of August. “She will remain admitted for at least a year. We will now focus on her leg movements. A correction surgery of hip, knee and joints is needed. Her leg muscles are too weak to support her weight and physiotherapy is necessary. But we are still not sure if she can walk,” medical director at Burjeel Hospital, Dr Yassin Shahat, told Indian Express.
