Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, today profusely praised the FBI Director for re-opening the probe into the alleged email scandal of his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, during her stint as the Secretary of State in the first term of Obama administration.
“I have to give the FBI credit. That was so bad what happened originally,” Trump told his supporters in Grand Rapids, Michigan at an election rally.
He was referring to FBI Director James Comey’s letter to the Congressional leadership last week about his decision to reopen the investigations into the email scandal.
“It took guts for Director Comey to make the move that he made in light of the kind of opposition he had where they’re trying to protect her from criminal prosecution. You know that. It took a lot of guts,” said the Republican presidential nominee.
Trump was very critical of Comey early in the summer when the FBI Director after his investigations had concluded that there is no ground for a case against Clinton.
The Republican presidential nominee had alleged that the FBI was part of the rigged system.
However, Trump has now changed his opinion.
“I really disagreed with him. I was not his fan. But I’ll tell you what: What he did, he brought back his reputation. He brought it back,” Trump said.
“A lot of people want him to do the wrong thing. What he did was the right thing,” he said.
