Violent protests broke out at POSCO's plant in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha against a pre-dawn police crackdown on villagers who were agitating over their eviction from the site. Villagers claimed that they were protesting against the government's move to forcefully acquire their land for the South Korean based steel company. The Police did not even spare women and children during their baton charge. According to reports, twelve platoons of police have been deployed at the site. Land acquisition for the Rs 52,000 crore Posco steel plant started in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district on February 3 after a gap of more than one year amid fierce protests from anti-Posco villagers and baton charge by police.
