Rapid industrialization and rising standards of living of people in urban and rural India have led to a rise in power consumption. The government is keen on meeting the demand by encouraging power production from new and renewable sources of energy. India would take its new and renewable capacities to 54,000 MW by 2017, the terminal year of the 12th Five-Year Plan. Currently, the country has around 27,000 MW of renewable energy capacity. In the past few years many small and big industries have ventured into the sector seeking high growth trajectory.
