Bank employees go on nationwide strike

Protesting against the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, a section of the public sector bank employees went on a one-day nationwide strike today partially affecting normal banking operations. Four bank unions- All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) and National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) - led the strike. Operations have been affected in those banks where these unions have a strong presence. In Kolkata, the national and regional banks remained closed as employees said that they would continue with their protest.
