Congress is hopeful of gaining support of majority in the parliament after the government conceded to the demand of the opposition for a vote on the proposal to let foreign supermarkets set up shops in the nation. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Congresss spokesperson Rashid Alvi stated that the government was always in favour of a debate on foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail sector. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lauded the decision of the Congress for a debate on FDI. However, it also blamed the government for wasting time of the parliament by delaying the early resolution over the impasse.
