New Delhi : Temperature was above normal in the capital on Thursday with the mercury soaring to 43.7 degree Celsius. Met department officials said the maximum temperature is three degrees above normal. The minimum temperature remained below normal at 26.3 degree Celsius.

However, no respite from the heat is predicted and temperatures are likely to rise through the week. The maximum temperature predicted is likely to be around 45 degree Celsius on Friday.

Delhi residents can expect a cloudy sky in the evening on Friday with a minimum temperature of 25 degree Celsius.

With a drastic increase in heat and humidity, the consumption of power in the capital on Wednesday touched a new high of 100.897 Million Units (MU).

A Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) official said, “This is the highest consumption for a single day in the month of May. The highest ever consumption of power on a single day was on July 2, 2012, when it touched a high of 107.365 MU.”

According to DTL, though there has been consistency in the consumption, the peak load during May has been on the lower side when compared to previous years.
