New Delhi : Three days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) anointed Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, party patriarch L K Advani lauded the Gujarat Chief Minister publicly for development in his state.

Modi slams UPA, says country needs strong leadership

Addressing a public rally in Chhatisgarh, Advani said that Modi was the first leader to work for rural areas and he has done a lot of development in Gujarat. "Modi ensured that power reached all town and villages in Gujarat. Now, the Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh is doing the same," Advani said.

Slam fest: Narendra Modi 'desperate', is all about 'I, me, myself'

The development assumes signficance since the appointment of Modi as BJP\'s prime ministerial candidate had left Advani upset.

Column: Which way will Narendra Modi go?

Parliamentary Board had on Friday last anointed Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Advani didn\'t attend the meeting and his absence was a clear indication that the veteran leader was not happy with the decision.

Irked over Modi\'s elevation, Advani had written a scathing letter to BJP president Rajnath Singh expressing disappointment over his style of functioning.

Soon after his anointment, Modi had visited Advani and spent around 30 minutes with him. This was after Advani had written to Singh.

Interestingly, though Advani wrote the letter in the wake of Modi\'s elevation as PM candidate, he attacked Rajnath Singh and chose not to mention the Gujarat Chief Minister.
