Kuldeep Yadav has become India’s latest cricketing sensation by taking a hattrick today to help India beat Australia by 50 runs, which at one point of time was looking tough for the Men in Blue. In quick succession, the 22-year-old removed Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins to help India get 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series against Aussies.
Who is Kuldeep Yadav?
India’s latest star was first noticed during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup after he became India’s leading wicket-taker at the tournament. He had actually become first Indian bowler to take a hattrick at the under 19 level. He was the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament by taking 14 wickets from 6 matches, cricbuzz.com said. He had initially started as a fast bowler but later changed to spin after his coach advised him. On an experimental basis, Kuldeep had bowled left-arm. Impressed by him, his coach asked him to stick to the slow bowling as it is rare in the cricketing world it added.
In 2012, Kuldeep Yadav got an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract with Mumbai Indians, even as the cricketer was not picked in the final eleven for any match. Even after moving to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) two years later, the story remained same for him. However, in 2014, he made his IPL debut with KKR. Kuldeep played just three matches but took six wickets at an average of 16.67. He was selected for Duleep Trophy in 2016, giving him a chance to show his potential. While playing for India Red, the cricketer picked 17 wickets in three matches, helping his team reach the final.
Kuldeep managed to impress selectors in whatever opportunity he got. He was soon included in Indian squad for Test series against Australia. On his debut Test match, he took four wickets. He played his first ODI against West Indies this year.
