The English club is building a retractable football pitch at the new stadium according to the company designing it. The new home will be 61,500-seater is due to be ready for the start of the 2018-19 season, which will include a retractable grass pitch for football matches, and a synthetic pitch underneath for NFL matches, music concerts, and other events. It will take approximately 25 minutes to switch from one surface to another. As per ESPN report, Spurs have agreed to a 10-year deal with the NFL to host two NFL matches per year at the ground, which is being built a stone’s throw from the site of the old White Hart Lane.

Moreover, the ground also includes a separate dressing room and media facilities for NFL and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has previously said he plans to host back-to-back Premier League and NFL matches on the same day, while he hopes the ground will become the permanent home to an NFL franchise, the report added.

The club has chosen SCX to design, engineer and build the pitch over a period of 12-months. Interestingly the surface will tear into three tiers to show each tray before retracting under the South Stand to reveal the artificial playing surface. Notably, the players need not worry about the joints as once the grass pitch is returned, the joints are invisible and undetectable. Simon Eastwood, SCX managing director said, “We are so very proud to deliver this engineering world first,” reported ESPN.

This is not the first time SCX is doing such a job. The company was behind building the retractable roof on Centre Court at Wimbledon and will be adding a similar system to Court for the 2019 tournament.
