Star Indian boxer Vijender Singh today invited Textile Minister Smriti Irani for his July 16 fight at the Thyagraj Stadium in Delhi. The boxer tweeted a selfie with Smriti Irani saying, “Invited the ever smiling ,@TexMinIndia @smritiirani ji for my fight, this 16th July at Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi.”
Yesterday, Vijender Singh had said that he does not feel any “additional pressure” before the bout against Australia’s Kerry Hope for the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title.
The 2008 Olympic Games bronze-medallist said, “There is no pressure (but) more responsibility. This fight will decide what is the future of pro boxing in India. People are excited and would be coming to see (the fight).”

Vijender Singh has won his first six professional fights inside the distance and is up against an opponent, who brings with him the experience of 30 bouts, of which he has won 23, out of which two were by knock-outs.
Vijender Singh is a three-time Olympian and recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. After his July 16 fight, Singh plans to go to the Rio Games to lend his support to the three Indian boxers who have qualified in different weight categories.
