There is no doubt that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s name will go down as one of the finest cricketers to play the game. He took over as the captain of the Indian cricket team at a very tricky time and helped it reach new heights. So, when a former player picks Dhoni in his dream team, it is not a surprise. However, when batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was asked who would he pick in his dream Kabaddi team, the answer was Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Sachin said that he thinks Dhoni can become a very good defender and added that singer Shankar Mahadevan can become a very good raider. “Certainly M S Dhoni as a defender and Breathless-fame Shankar Mahadevan as raider,” Sachin said while speaking at an event.
Tendulkar also thanked Tamil film actor Kamal Haasan, who was present at the event for supporting kabaddi and Tamil Thalaivas, as its brand ambassador. The actor on his part said he was happy to be associated with ‘Thalaivas’ and hoped to see the team play the finals in Chennai. “I am delighted to see a cricket legend (Tendulkar) throw his weight behind kabaddi and get involved with a team,” Haasan added on his part.
At the event, co-owner Nimmagada Prasad praised Sachin Tendulkar for showing interest in sports other than cricket and said the team led by Ajay Thakur and coached by K Baskaran was among the best in the league. Other co-owners including Allu Aravind, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan, who were present, thanked Tendulkar and Haasan for backing a traditional sport like Kabaddi. The team and coach were unveiled during the function.
While addressing the media, Sachin said that he is not just promoting kabaddi but sports in general. “I am here to support not only kabaddi but sports in general. At some stage in our life we all would have played Kabaddi. When I went to watch a match some time ago, the kind of energy I felt was incredible. I have since loved the game,” he said.
