London 2012 bronze medal winner MC Mary Kom has expressed pleasure at the news of wrestler Narsingh Yadav’s acquittal by the National Anti Doping Agency. The former World Champion is a part of the Indian boxing team and a strong contender for gold this year. Yadav, whose name shot to news because of his failure at the dope test was cleared by the NADA on Monday. The NADA panel was convinced that Yadav wasa victim of a sabotage by a fellow competitor and his negligence shouldn’t be in the way of his Olympic berth. Earlier today, Narsingh Yadav met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his office in the Parliament House, who asked him to practice freely without any worries. The prime Minister assured the relieved athlete that no injustice will be done to him.
The wrestler who had failed a dope test on July 25, earlier this year had cried conspiracy, following which a panel was set up by NADA to hear his case. The wrestler today said that he wanted to move on from the controversy and practice to win a medal for India in the Olympics. These unfortunate events were preceded by an ugly legal battle between Olympic Gold medalist Sushil Kumar, and Narsingh Yadav and the Wrestling Federation of India. Narsingh Yadav had won the quota place, making Sushil Kumar go for a trial. The courts had sided with Narsingh on the matter.
After Monday’s hearing, Yadav will be travelling to Brazil to compete in the 74kg category of men’s wrestling at the Rio Olympics 2016. While controversies surrounding his participation have made news, the fact that his fellow athletes have supported him through this tedious chain of events would motivate the young wrestler to achieve his goals.
