Ace badminton star PV Sindhu makes headlines again, this time not for her sporting achievements but for toppling MS Dhoni from the list of highest grossing brand ambassadors.

Ace badminton star PV Sindhu makes headlines again, this time not for her sporting achievements but for toppling MS Dhoni from the list of highest grossing brand ambassadors. In a country which places cricket above every other sport, PV Sindhu has managed to attain a position where not only has she achieved as a sportsman but now has also become one of the highest paid brand ambassador replacing Captain Cool.

Her story of achievements began when she first won a silver at the Rio Olympics, becoming the first woman to win a medal in the sport. At this juncture, she is just below Captain Virat Kohli interms of her earnings as a brand ambassador. This also means that she has also toppled women in other sports like Saina Nehwal and Sania Mirza.

According to sports management firm ‘Baseline Ventures’ which represents PV Sindhu, director and co-founder Tuhin Mishra has said that she has surpassed other women athletes and non cricketers in terms of her endorsement. Mishra also informed that the firm is trying its best to ensure that her association with the brands remain for a longer period of time and all these do not hamper her game.

According to Tuhin Mishra Sindhu’s endorsement fee is Rs 1-1.25 crore per day. According to reports, Virat Kohli earns a whopping Rs 2 crore for his endorsements daily. After her marvellous win in the Rio Olympics, her fee has increased from Rs 15-25 lakh to Rs 1 crore and above. In the previous 5 months PV Sindhu has roped in Rs 30 crore endorsement.

Players as well as Bollywood stars are the ones who are endorsing brands since a very long time. Famous stars have been the face of various advertisement in print, digital and television which helps the brands become more desirable.

In a country where only a handful of Olympians reside, marketing managers try to make the most of their popularity. After becoming the first Indian woman to win Olympic silver medal, Sindhu tied up with APS, online fashion store Myntra and Bank of Baroda to become brand ambassdor of these companies respectively. She is also the face of much talked about GST- the Centre’s pan India tax regime . Earlier she had also signed a lucrative deal with Rickett Benkiser’s pain relief balm ‘ Moov’.
