Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took to Twitter and praised the ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu for her historic victory in the final match of the BWF Korean Open Superseries. PM Modi through the Prime Minister’s offices’ Twitter account wrote: “Congratulations to @Pvsindhu1 on emerging victorious in the Korea Open Super Series. India is immensely proud of her accomplishment.” PM Modi’s wish came soon after Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara to become the first Indian shuttler to bag the Korean Superseries. As per reports, Sindhu bagged victory in the longest ever match played in the final of the Korean championship which lasted for about 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Sindhu, is also a silver medalist of Rio Olympics, outshined Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 at the SK Handball Stadium earlier today. Sindhu’s huge win comes as a revenge as weeks earlier she lost to Okuhara in the final of the World Championships which snatched her chance to win a first gold medal.

Sindhu after winning a nervous first game started losing grip on the second on where she failed against her Japanese counterpart. However, the third one was the decider and went neck-to-neck before the Indian shuttler imposed her dominance and did not let it go of the lead. Prior to Sindhu, it was Ajay Jayaram who became the first Indian to reach the final of Korea Open in 2015, however, he had to return with a silver medal.
Various celebrities and politicians congratulated the star shuttler for defeating the reigning world champion in women’s singles final. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar etc were amongst the few who celebrated Sindhu’s remarkable victory.
