After taking an unbeatable lead on Sunday at Pallekele, the Indian cricket team will now look to win the fourth ODI and take a step towards another whitewash against Sri Lanka when they take the field on Thursday. The match will also be of significant importance for the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni who is on the verge of making two new records. The 4th ODI at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium will be MS Dhoni’s 300th ODI match. So far, the wicketkeeper batsman has scored 9608 runs with 65 fifties and 10 hundreds at an average of 51.94.
In this match, Dhoni will have the chance to become the first wicketkeeper in the history of the game to pull off 100 stumpings. He currently has 99 stumpings to his name and is sitting on top of the list along with former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. He equaled the Sri Lankan at 99 when he claimed the scalp of Danushka Gunathilaka off leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 2nd ODI. Apart from this, Dhoni has now 72 not outs to his name in ODIs which is equal to Shaun Pollock and Chaminda Vaas for the most ODI not outs.
This means if the former Indian captain is able to finish the game once again for the side, he will have the record for most number of not outs as well. Dhoni has already finished two matches for the Indian team in this series so far. In the 2nd ODI, he pulled off a miracle win by adding 100 runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the 8th wicket.
Later, in the 3rd ODI, Dhoni along with Rohit Sharma took India out of a tough situation and helped the side to a comfortable victory. Rohit and Dhoni added 157 runs for the 5th wicket as India took a lead of 3-0 in the series.
